Emotions

It’s been awhile since I purchased my first home — a condo on Capitol Hill <IMG hspace=25 src=”/images/99168-91904/U_S__Capitol_close_up.jpg” width=120 align=right vspace=25 border=2> — but I remember quite vividly what it felt like to sit at the settlement table.  I was single and signing all those papers without anyone to sit next to me and support me was tough.  My agent was there, of course, and I loved her dearly, but it was my name on all those documents, nobody else’s.

More than that, it was my check for the closing costs, nobody else’s.  Probably the biggest check I ever wrote. And then, of course, the numbers were slightly off,<IMG style=”WIDTH: 188px” height=126 hspace=25 src=”/images/99168-91904/cold_hard_cash_2.jpg” width=160 align=left vspace=15 border=2>and I had to supplement my cashier’s check with a personal check.  I believe the account was overdrawn that day.

Since that day I’ve had my share of wins and losses in the real estate market.  I like to think that I’ve learned from these experiences over time, but I’ll never forget the pride I had when settling into my new 1 bedroom condo within a stone’s throw of the U.S. Capitol.  Wow.
