Time and time again I have people tell me about the real estate news they learn through the mass media, without taking into account that economics 101 is what matters. Supply and demand. And what boosts demand for housing? Yup, jobs. Besides enjoying the safe haven of government jobs in our area, NoVa continues to attract private sector employers.
Yesterday, Arlington County officials announced that GridPoint, Inc., a leading clean tech company whose smart grid platform benefits electric utilities, consumers and the environment, will invest $5 million as it relocates its operations from Washington, D.C., to Arlington, Virginia. The project expects to create approximately 250 new jobs over the next three years. Arlington successfully competed against Austin, Texas.
‘Green’ energy, isn’t that great? And it’s happening here, folks. Right here, in your backyard. For those who already live in Northern Virginia, no need to cross the river for these jobs.
GridPoint’s move showcases Arlington as an amenity-rich, highly sought-after place for companies to locate. “We chose Arlington as GridPoint’s headquarters for a variety of reasons, including its status as a business-friendly location with a highly skilled technology workforce, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with its world-class educational, training and research institutions,” said Karl Lewis, Chief Operating Officer.
Hey, if it’s good enough for them …
Happy weekend (stay warm, brrrrrr)
Chris
