Say you’re driving along and see a “For Sale” sign in front of a good looking house. You get all excited and call the office to try to get more information about the property. The agent that was selling that house tells you that it’s already been sold, but they can help you find a home.
gotcha!
You, the fish, saw the bait and swam right to it. That house was sold weeks ago.
It’s a very common sight to see “For Sale” yard signs all over town that are actually posted on homes that have contracts on them. The signs are very often misleading, so please don’t count on them. I cannot tell you the number of times someone expresses concern to me because the “For Sale” sign has been on a house for so long, they think the market has stalled, when really all it is, is that the agent hasn’t replaced it yet.
Straightforward negligence or master manipulation, just don’t necessarily believe that those “For Sale” signs tell the truth.
Kind of like walking the streets of Manhatten where those electronic stores proclaim the perpetual sale …
or maybe I’m just a tad too cynical this week.

I have worked as a home inspector for 11+ years. We have inspected everything you can think of. I take the time to read and write many blogs and articles on home inspection and real estate. I aee this same thing all the time here in Ca. Signs up for months. It’s like a YARD WEB SITE!. Sellers should be charging the realtor for the advertisment. Hey it’s nice to read something new and relevant. This was a true joy to read, well done! Mr. D Salvato Founder of HomeInspectionServices.org
